Selena Gomez Leaves Behind Disney Image To Star In 'Getaway' With Ethan Hawke

SeGo Makes A 'Getaway' From Her Disney Image

Selena Gomez has been doing a good job shaking loose from her Disney image, moving on to more serious projects. Aside from a new album, which Selena said might be her last musical project, she has been focusing on her acting career. Her new movie “Getaway” is just one more step in the right direction for the 20-year-old. Gomez will star in the action thriller coming out August 30 opposite Ethan Hawke.

“I’m enjoying doing things that allow me to stretch my abilities,” Gomez told WWD. “I want to continue in that direction.”

Selena Gomez gushes about working with Ethan Hawke

“Getaway, starring Hawke as Brent Magna and Gomez as the Kid, is about the two battling against time to stop a kidnapper from killing Brent’s kidnapped wife. Brent is a former race-car driver who has to use his skills in order to assure the survival of his loved one. Selena’s character becomes a part of the problem when she tries to carjack Brent’s Mustang, becoming entangled in the whole mess.

In an interview with Collider, Gomez admitted to how fun it was to work with Ethan Hawke:

“It was awesome! Ethan was incredible. He just would tell me stories about the previous projects that he’s been a part of. He was like, ‘Oh, I remember when I was your age and I was doing this and this.’ It was great! It was cool to have that. I remember writing down so many notes and things that he would say because he was really supportive and obviously amazingly talented. It was really fun,” said Gomez.

“Getaway” is sure to promise a lot of car action along with a suspenseful journey that will show Gomez in a whole new light.

The Disney star breaks free in ‘Spring Breakers’

The “Wizards of Waverly Place” star is definitely maturing and taking on more serious roles. She recently starred in a film called “Spring Breakers” that broke away from her good-girl image and may have gotten people to take her more seriously as an actress, seeing as how the movie is a bit on the darker side. The film, starring James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine is about four college girls that go to Florida for spring break and wind up getting into trouble when they meet the mischievous rapper-drug dealer played by Franco.
