Selena Gomez Reveals She's In Therapy After Body-Shaming

The singer got personal in an interview with Us Weekly.

When Selena Gomez released the artwork for her upcoming album, headlines focused on the fact that she was topless. But there was more to it than showing skin.

"This was the first year I ever dealt with anyone talking about my body," Gomez told Us Weekly about choosing to bare it all for the cover of "Revival." "I'd land at the airport and people would yell out, 'You're fat!' It was awful. I've been working in therapy. Even if I did gain weight, I'm fine. That's what the picture represents."

Over the summer, Gomez faced cruel criticism of her body when paparazzi photos of her on the beach during a Mexico getaway surfaced online. She decided to respond to the haters with a message of self-love on Instagram.

Today, the 23-year-old, who has been working since she was just 7 years old, is set on being happy.

"Each year, I'm becoming more who I am," she told the magazine. "I have a little more self-awareness. I feel confident and free. I'm not going to hide in my room and be depressed."
