It's Official: A Selena Quintanilla MAC Cosmetic Line Is Coming In 2016

And fans are very excited.

Thousands of Selena Quintanilla fans’ hearts exploded as news of a MAC cosmetic line inspired by the slain Tejano singer broke on Thursday morning.

The cosmetics company delivered the news to fans via their social media accounts, including Twitter and Instagram.

The company's decision comes nearly six months after fans first began to rally online for a MAC collection inspired by the late singer. Las Vegas-based make-up artist and Selena fan José Antonio Figueroa was the catalyst to the movement after he photoshopped an image of Selena on a MAC lipstick and posted the photo on Instagram in January.

The image included the hashtag #SelenaQuintanillaForMAC and quickly went viral.

Patty Rodriguez, a producer for “On Air With Ryan Seacrest," then started a formal petition on Change.org to make a full collection a reality. Rodriguez initially hoped to recieve 5,000 signatures in support of a limited-edition collection in the singer's name. By the time MAC announced the line on Thursday morning, the petition had accrued nearly 38,000 signatures.

MAC originally responded to the petition in April, bringing hope to many with a statement acknowledging the “enthusiasm” of Selena fans and assuring them that all their feedback would be taken into consideration as new collaborations are planned.

The company came through Thursday morning.

“The talent and beauty, both physical and internal, of Selena has caused a significant and colorful impact on the world that has continued to grow during the last two decades,” James Gager, Creative Director for MAC James Gager, told People en Español. “We have paid attention to the passion and enthusiasm of her fans and whole heartedly recognize that her legacy personifies MAC’s philosophy.”

Gager also told People that the collection will debut in the second half of 2016.

Rumors that the company had reached out to Quintanilla's sister, Suzette, to collaborate on the collection were also confirmed on Thursday. The singer's sibling and bandmate spoke to People en Español exclusively on the collection.

"Helping create this collection takes me back to those late night chats on our tour bus, when [Selena] use to talk about some day having her own make up line," Suzette said as part of her statement to the website.
