For better or worse this has become the era of the #Selfie and, much to the dismay of many, we are becoming a very self obsessed society as a result. This recent SNL episode mocks the issue http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/millennials/2916016
but it really sheds light on how selfish and ego-driven we are getting as a whole.
What was once thought of as a cute passing fad has now become more of a sad state of over self involvement. I know people think the whole world wants to see them take a bite of their breakfast because it is fascinating to everyone but it really just isn't and that is not meant to be harsh but rather a reality check.
It is my goal, and I hope you will join me in this effort, to propose an entirely new movement entitled the #Selfless. The #Selfless is simple. You take a picture of someone (other than yourself) doing something selfless for someone else and post it on social media with the hashtag selfless.
I was struggling with packages and my insane puppy in the street the other day and I dropped something without even noticing. Someone chased me down the street to give it back to me. I wish someone had caught that random act of kindness on film and posted it as a #Selfless!
I really think the world would be a much nicer place for all of us if we focused more on others and less on ourselves. I think we will be surprised at some of the beautiful things we will witness when we actually pay attention...
