Prince Harry pursuing a pretty noble mission.
He recently announced that his charity, Sentebale, which helps children in the tiny country Lesotho in southern Africa, plans on expanding to five countries and boost its fundraising goal to £8 ($13 million dollars) to do so, The Telegraph reports.
The organization presently educates and supports HIV positive children and orphans in Lesotho, one of the world's poorest countries.
“We still have an absolute commitment to doing all we can in Lesotho, but we want to take the programme to other countries because there is huge unmet need,” Cathy Ferrier, CEO of Sentebale told the news outlet, describing how the organization researched other African countries with similar humanitarian problems: a high number of orphans and high HIV infection rates.
To do so, the charity must increase its income from £2 to £8 -- a difficult task for an organization that has been riddled with problems since its founding seven years ago, the Telegraph reports.
Financial mismanagement that resulted in two emergency loans including one from the proceeds of the memorial concert for Princess Diana, the cancellation of high profile fundraising events and several resignations from administrators have all been part of the charity’s short lived life, according to the London Evening Standard.
But despite the numerous controversies surrounding his charity and personal life, 28-year-old Prince Harry says he remains committed to the cause.
“My ambition – well I hope that’s what we’re doing in Lesotho – once we’re professional enough, and that may take a couple of years or a few more years to go, we hope to expand across the world with the concept we’re using in Lesotho,” Prince Harry told the Press Association.
