“First of all, don’t ever start a sentence with the phrase, ‘If I were a black father.’ If you are a black father, you don’t need to say it. And if you’re not, you should probably just shut the fuck up,” said Seth Meyers, sounding off on recent controversial comments made by Rudy Giuliani.

The “Late Night” host spent part of Monday’s show calling out politicians and the media over the response in the wake of the deaths of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling and the shooting in Dallas. Unfortunately, like Giuliani explaining his life philosophy as a black dad, most of it is “inflammatory garbage.”

The New York Post ran a headline calling the situation in America “Civil War,” and many politicians have seemingly used the tragedies to push their own agendas.

Rather than perpetuate the hate, Meyers called attention to comments made by Snoop Dogg and Newt Gingrich, which were aimed at bridging the divide between police and the public. He also pointed out peaceful relations between protesters and the Dallas Police Department, where some even stopped for photo opportunities with authorities.

“This is the best of America: police officers working with the community and supporting their right to protest, and that’s what we should be fighting to protect,” said Meyers.
