Seth Meyers Tackles 'Gay Twitter,' 'Gay Weddings' And.. 'Gay Turkeys'

“There’s Twitter, and sometimes gay people use it, but aren’t we past the point of putting ‘gay’ in front of everything gay people do?"

Seth Meyers is doing his part to make sure that America has its facts straight.

In a "Late Night" segment called “For The Record,” Meyers corrected some of the misinformation that was spread across the Internet last week by "candidates, news networks [and] everyday people on social media” regarding Hillary Clinton's comments about Nancy Reagan's alleged AIDS activism.

After taking Clinton to task for inaccurately praising the former first lady for igniting dialogue about the epidemic -- “Nancy Reagan started a conversation about AIDS the way your dad’s affair started a family conversation about fidelity” -- Meyers then slammed a widely-shared meme featuring a homophobic quote supposedly said by Reagan to The Boston Globe in 1981. “There’s no proof she ever said it," Meyers noted. "I know it’s tricky… the fact that it’s made into a meme makes it seem true..."

But Meyers saved what might have been his most potent truth telling for the end of his report, when he challenged a New York Times headline that featured the phrase “gay Twitter erupts.”

“There’s Twitter, and sometimes gay people use it, but aren’t we past the point of putting ‘gay’ in front of everything gay people do?" the late night host asked. "We don’t have to call them gay weddings anymore. They’re just weddings. Your gay best friend can just be your best friend and if Brenda and Karen invite you for Thanksgiving, the thing they serve is just turkey… just regular turkey.”
