Actor and comedian Seth Rogen made an appearance on Capitol Hill Wednesday to testify at a Senate hearing on Alzheimers Disease.
Rogen acknowledged his unusual presence on the Hill, saying he came partly because he's a huge "House of Cards" fan.
"Yes, I'm aware that this has nothing to do with the legalization of marijuana," Rogen joked.
Rogen told the story of his mother-in-law, who began experiencing symptoms of Alzheimers in her 50s. He described "the real ugly truth of the disease," telling how by the age of 60, his mother-in-law had forgotten "how to speak, feed herself, dress herself and go to the bathroom herself."
The "Knocked Up" star said paying for treatment for the disease, which he once called "brutal," hasn't been as much of a hardship for his family because of his success in the entertainment industry.
"I can't begin to imagine how people with more limited incomes are dealing with this," Rogen said.
Along with acting as a celebrity spokesman and fundraiser for the National Alzheimer's Association, Rogen and his wife Lauren Miller started Hilarity For Charity to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's among a younger generation.
"That’s right. The situation is so dire, that it caused me -– a lazy, self-involved, generally self-medicated manchild -– to start an entire charity organization," Rogen said.
Another famous face also appeared on the Hill today: Academy award-winner Ben Affleck met with senators and testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the Congo.
