Seth Rogen made it very clear that he is not a fan of the "stupid" movie ratings system while speaking at the Produced By Conference on Saturday, June 7.
"[The ratings system] is so stupid why play that game?" Rogen said. "Why even enter a system that stupid?"
"There’s nothing more frustrating than being on set and coming up with a joke and being told you can’t do it because it’s a PG movie," Rogen continued. "It’s like boxing with your hands tied behind your back ... because of some weird ratings structure."
We can expect that Rogen, and his longtime friend Evan Goldberg, will be sticking with R-rated in order to meet their comedy needs. Further discussing their creative process, the duo explained that despite similar senses of humor, there are times that they disagree. In such cases, they shoot the scene from each perspective and then compare reactions.
“The biggest thing is we test the shit out of the movies over and over again,” Rogen said. “If the joke isn’t funny we generally have another joke. We test the movie so much hopefully every joke works.”
In regards to upcoming films, they said "The Interview," starring Rogen and James Franco, is in final post-production. They are also working on a Christmas Eve film with director Jonathan Levine, developing an AMC series with "Breaking Bad" producer Sam Kaplan, in production on their first animated movie, "Sausage Party" and developing a movie called "Jazz Cops," about cops attempting to infiltrate the jazz music scene in the 1950s, set to star Rogen and Kevin Hart.
