7 UNC Wins Over Duke They'll Never Stop Celebrating In Chapel Hill

If everybody really hates Duke then the University of North Carolina must have the most popular basketball team in the country. After all, nothing grieves the Blue Devils more than losing to their nearby rivals.

In the decades since this Tobacco Road feud tipped off, each team has had its share of memorable triumphs but the Tar Heels have the edge in head-to-head matchups, national championships and regular season ACC titles entering March 2014

From a big performance by young MJ to the Bloody Montross Game, here are seven times that UNC owned Tobacco Road.

The Comeback
Down by eight with just 17 seconds left on March 2, 1974, the Tar Heels pulled off a stunning comeback. Walter Davis' buzzer beater to send the game into overtime and UNC went on to win 96-92.
Sorry, Jeff Capel
While Jeff Capel's buzzer beater to send the game into double overtime remains the most memorable moment of this 1995 clash, North Carolina prevailed. On the way to UNC's double-overtime 102-100 victory, Jerry Stackhouse and Rasheed Wallace dunked all over the Blue Devils.
Ruining Redick's Night
UNC fans (especially the one who made this video) will probably remember ruining J. J. Redick's senior night at Cameron Indoor Stadium on March 4, 2006 for a long, long time.
No. 2 Is Greater Than No. 1
The Blue Devils went into Chapel Hill in February 1998 as the No. 1 team in the nation. They didn't look like it. Duke ended up getting blown out 97-73 by No. 2 UNC, led by Vince Carter, Ed Cota and Antawn Jamison.
The Montross Game
Led by a bruised and bloody Eric Montross, No. 9 UNC upset No. 1 Duke 75-73 in Chapel Hill on February 5, 1992. Besides Montross' dominant performance, Tar Heels fans might also remember this game for Christian Laettner missing a last-second shot that would have tied the game.
Young MJ Rocks Duke
Duke got a glimpse into the future on January 22, 1983. When Michael Jordan was a sophomore at UNC, he helped destroy Duke with a 32-point performance to go along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Dominant In Enemy Territory
In a battle of top ten teams on February 11, 2009, Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson led UNC to a road win over Duke, 101-87. It was the fourth straight win for UNC at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
