Shane Bitney Crone Talks 'Bridegroom,' Partner's Death On HuffPost Live

WATCH: 'Bridegroom' Star On The Crushing Aftermath Of His Partner's Death

If you're not familiar with the story of Shane Bitney Crone and Tom Bridegroom, it is one of crushing loss and heartbreak -- but also uniquely framed by this moment in history for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals.

Providing another voice and story to the battle for the legal rights of same-sex couples, the film follows the aftermath of the pair's six-year relationship when Bridegroom was killed in a tragic accident. Bridegroom's family barred Crone from not only attending the funeral, but threatened him and attempted to obliterate him from Bridegroom's life.

"I was on my way to the funeral with my mom," Bitney told HuffPost Live in the above clip, "and I received a phone call from one of his relatives letting me know that if I tried to show up his father and uncle were going to attack me... I know that grief can cause people to do things they wouldn't normally do. But I never imagined that [his mother] would try to erase me from existence."

"Bridegroom" premiered at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival, winning the Audience Award for Best Documentary Film. Check out the above clip to hear the rest of Bitney's intensely emotional tale about his life following Bridegroom's death.
