Homeless, single mother Shanesha Taylor was arrested for leaving her two young children alone in her locked car while she went on a job interview.

Her story became widely circulated after a stranger started a crowdfunding campaign for Taylor and raised over $100,000 for the 43-year-old mother and her two children.

Taylor spoke out for the first time since the arrest, in an exclusive interview with TODAY's Matt Lauer. She asserted that the decision was made in "a moment of desperation" and encouraged others facing a similar plight to ask for help, and seek assistance from non-profit organizations to avoid an experience similar to hers.

The original charges brought against Taylor have since been dropped.
