The burnt, naked body uncovered in Gerritsen Beach, Brooklyn on Sunday has been identified as a missing 14-year-old girl.
The Daily News reports Shaniesha Forbes, a freshman at the Academy of Young Writers, had been reported missing since Friday morning.
Forbes' body was discovered adjacent to an extinguished bonfire with several beer cans. Kerosene was found nearby.
Her body was found face up on the beach with her legs, arms, and hands scorched.
Police have yet to rule the teenager's death as a homicide and the cause of death has yet to be determined.
According to The New York Post, her burns were not life-threatening and she suffered no gunshot or stab wounds. There were also no signs of strangulation.
