Sharron Angle Called 'Extreme,' 'Uncompassionate And Non-Caring' By GOP Gov's Ex-Wife (VIDEO)

(AP/Huffington Post) -- The ex-wife of Nevada's Republican governor is slamming GOP Senate candidate Sharron Angle who is vying to unseat Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Dawn Gibbons blasted Angle's education agenda Wednesday during a campaign appearance to drum up support for Reid in his re-election fight. She called Angle's ideas dangerous and extreme in a speech echoing attacks fired by the four-term incumbent's camp.

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports:

"I still consider her a friend," Gibbons said of Angle when asked by a reporter whether she had a "personal vendetta" against the Tea Party favorite during a news conference arranged by Reid's campaign.

"I think the world of both of them," she added. "But this is about the future of the state of Nevada. And we can't really afford to have someone that is so extreme and so uncompassionate and non-caring about our citizens. We need someone in the United States Senate that will stand up and fight for us."

Dawn Gibbons faced Angle in a three-way congressional primary in 2006. Neither emerged victorious. The Nevada Republican, however, signaled that's when she first became familiar with some of the conservative contender's more controversial positions.

Gibbons, a former Republican state legislator, was among Reid's earliest Republican supporters last year. Her divorce from Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons was finalized in July.
