Shepard Fairey, Street Artists Create Murals For West Hollywood's Library

West Hollywood is getting a little dose of downtown, as MOCA-selected artists Shepard Fairey, Kenny Scharf, and RETNA have just finished installing murals on the sides of the city's new library.

The building is still under construction, but the murals were completed recently, reports the LA Times. The project came out of a meeting with MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch and West Hollywood's cultural affairs administrator, Andrew Campbell.

The LA Times tells us that Deitch thought that the walls of the new development's parking structure would make a perfect canvas for the work of several artists featured in MOCA's "Art in the Streets" exhibit.

While the city of West Hollywood is funding the anti-UV and anti-graffiti coating, MOCA and the artists are paying for the rest of the expenses. Indeed, Fairey wrote on his website, "Calm down taxpayers… I was not paid to do the mural and paid for my own supplies and labor."
