Sherri Shepherd: 'View' Watchers 'Hated My Guts'

'They Hated My Guts'

Sherri Shepherd may look like a regular pro on 'The View' now, but the co-host says it wasn't always that way.

Shepherd said it took years for her to finally feel comfortable on the show, admitting that she can still remember the attacks she received from viewers during her early days, she told Fusion host Alicia Menendez in an interview Tuesday.

"It took me three years," she said. "Three years. Everybody hated me. They hated my guts.... Somebody is always going to not like what you say."

Shepherd said she can still remember some of the mean things that were said about her along the way.

"Bill O'Reilly called me a pin-head. Bill Maher said I should be fired with a stupid stick-- that he couldn't believe I was teaching my son my beliefs."

Shepherd has certainly taken some heat since her "View" debut in 2007, particularly for her strong Christian beliefs on evolution and homosexuality. During the interview, she brought up the clip that fueled major criticism when, in what she says was a moment of extreme nerves, she questioned whether the world was flat or round.

"It went from people loving me-- I was a breath of fresh air on 'The View,'" she said, "to, 'how did this dumb girl get this job?' I hate her, she's a waste of space.' People just came down on me so hard."
