Shirley Temple will always be remembered as the sweet curly-haired girl whose infectious smile and dance skills charmed a nation. The American film and television actress started her career early; by the age of three she was already dancing. Temple retired from this industry in her teens and went on to sit on the boards of many prestigious companies, including The Walt Disney Company.
By the 1960s, the former actress had developed political aspirations and ran (unsuccessfully) for Congress. However, Temple was appointed United States Ambassador to Ghana in 1974 and to Czechoslovakia in 1989.
The Los Angeles native, whose signature song, "On the Good Ship Lollipop," was the face of wholesome family entertainment in the 1930s and her style reflected her youth. Bobbysocks and collared dresses accompanied her corkscrew curls, and later, her look became more fitting for a young lady in tailored blouses and skirts. Temple's style in the '80s and '90s was apropos of the era: bright colors and bold silhouettes.
As for that drink that's named in her honor? On her 10th birthday, a bartender at a Beverly Hills restaurant is said to have created a non-alcoholic cocktail to serve to her while she dined with her parents and older celebrities.
