Two Children, One Adult Shot At D.C. Swimming Pool

2 Kids Shot At Apartment Complex Swimming Pool

WASHINGTON -- Police in the nation's capital are looking for a man they believe shot two children and an adult at a District of Columbia swimming pool on Monday afternoon.

A 7-year-old boy was shot in the shoulder and is in serious condition. An 8-year- old boy, who was shot in the ankle, and an adult man also shot in the ankle have non-life threatening injuries, according to D.C. police.

Former D.C. Mayor Marion Barry (D), who represents Ward 8 on the D.C. Council, responded to information about the injuries:

Those shot may not have been the intended victims, according to WTOP:

Police say a person ran by the pool area who they believe was the intended victim, but the shooter hit the children by mistake.

The Washington Examiner's Scott McCabe reports that the shooting took place at "the Villages of Parklands SplashPark" off Savannah Street SE, a place described by developers as "a state-of-the-art interactive water park."

NBC4/WRC-TV's Darcy Spencer reports that "D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said that the children were walking with a counselor when the shots were fired." A witness told Spencer "she heard about 11 shots being fired during the incident."

WJLA-TV/ABC7 confirms that the adult victim is a counselor.

D.C. police are telling people to avoid the area while they investigate.

This is a developing story...
