This is going to sting a little, but this has to be said — and heard. With every purchase, we directly support the impact of an entire industry. From the sourcing of raw materials, to the use of toxic chemicals used in production; from slave wages to hazardous conditions endured by factory workers of all ages — it is no longer acceptable for first-world consumers to plead ignorance and complacency. We have a responsibility to demand minimum standards of operation that put environmental sustainability and human rights above corporate profits and CEO salaries.
The ClutterFree Revolution is about connecting the dots between our stuff and the impact those things have on a global scale. As members of the human race, we have a responsibility to each other and the sustainability of life on this planet. That means collectively becoming more intentional about what we need, and more informed about what we buy. We are what we love. And what we love is not what we say or how we feel, but what we do.
In 2016, world-renowned billion dollar brands are still profiting from illegal sweatshops. Brands you buy. GAP, Nike, Victoria’s Secret, H&M, Urban Outfitters, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Adidas, Wal-Mart. The list goes on and on. “Fast fashion” is no longer an acceptable standard of doing business. But corporate greed and governmental corruption prevent progress. There is no help on the way. It’s just us. If we are uncomfortable with corrupt corporate interests profiting from unethical operations, it’s up to consumers of the world to demand fair trade.
By boycotting brands we know to be unethical, we send a message of solidarity to corporate fat cats and government officials that consumers of the world will not tolerate irresponsible policies and negligent practices at the expense of environmental sustainability and human life.
