Single Mom Disguises Herself As 'Dad' So Son Won't Feel Left Out

Nothing can stand in the way of this single mother’s love for her child ― not even a father’s-only breakfast.

Yevette Vasquez was dropping off her son Elijah at school last week in Fort Worth, Texas, when she noticed more cars than usual in the parking lot, Vasquez recounted in a Facebook post.

When the mom of three asked Elijah what all the commotion was for, he said it was for a school event for students and their fathers known as “Donuts with Dad.”

That’s when Vasquez and her son decided to return home and come up with a disguise so Elijah could participate in the breakfast, CNN reported on Monday.

I wasn’t about to let him miss out,” Vasquez wrote on Facebook. “I know seeing other dads with there [sic] kids isn’t easy for mine but it’s life.”

Her son helped Vasquez pick out the perfect getup: Elijah’s fake mustache, a plaid shirt, hat and a spritz of cologne to top off the look.

Elijah was now ready to head back to school for breakfast. But this time, he had his new “dad” with him.

Vasquez told FOX4 News she was nervous but happy to show up at Elijah’s school dressed as a man. She was shocked at the positive reaction she’s received since posting the pictures to Facebook, Vasquez added.

“Most of the dads thought it was really cool,” she told CNN. “They thought it was really supportive and sweet. I did feel the energy of a few men who weren’t as comfortable with it though.”

Vasquez said Elijah was excited and thankful for their impromptu decision.

However, Vasquez wishes she had sooner been involved in previous father’s-only events that her son had to watch from the sidelines.

“I saw that same, sad look on his face, and I didn’t want that,” she told CNN.

Vasquez told the Star-Telegram that her “heart is so full from all the love and support,” after her Facebook post was liked over 15,000 times, with more than 5,500 shares since Thursday.

“Me and my little ones are grateful because it was definitely a moment we will never forget,” she told the Fort Worth newspaper.
