Most of us fail to make good use of such an invaluable part of our lives. In fact, we deliberately do just the opposite. We think, mistakenly, that success is the result of the amount of time we put in at work, instead of the quality of time we put in. Sleep, or how little of it we need, has become a symbol of our prowess. We make a fetish of not getting enough sleep, and we boast about how little sleep we get. I once had dinner with a man who bragged to me that he'd gotten only four hours of sleep the night before. I resisted the temptation to tell him that the dinner would have been a lot more interesting if he had gotten five. Arianna Huffington,Thrive

How Much Sleep Do We Need? And How Much Sleep Are We Getting?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) state how much sleep we need varies between individuals but generally changes as we age.

The National Institutes of Health suggests:

•School-age children need at least 10 hours of sleep daily

•Teens need 9-10.5 hours

•Adults need 7-8 hours

According to data from the National Health Interview Survey:

Nearly 30% of adults reported an average of ≤six hours of sleep per day

Only 31% of high school students reported getting at least eight hours of sleep on an average school night.

Few Things Can Make You Feel Better Than A Good Night's Sleep

We all know that few things can make you feel better than a good night's sleep.

And few things have as powerful an influence on our lives and health. Sleep restores and recharges us, keeps us healthy, and can even affect medical conditions such as diabetes and weight gain.

Factors That Are Crucial In Getting The Sleep You Need

Proper support. Incorrect spinal alignment or localized pressure points can cause more than discomfort. This can lead to tossing and turning or even interrupt the sleep cycle.

Temperature regulation. Variations in temperature may also interrupt the sleep cycle, particularly in those stages where the body's own temperature regulating mechanism is temporarily suspended.

A relaxing, calming atmosphere. Ambient conditions and massage effects are known to be beneficial in promoting better rest and helping the onset of sleep.

A more natural sleep environment. Adaptive surroundings that can bring your sleep area as close as possible to nature, more in accord with the conditions normal to the human body.

Modern advances in sleep using infrared and magnetic technology have made possible the creation of the optimal sleep environment.
