There's a reason it's called a "cat nap". If dogs are the unplug-and-recharge professionals, then cats are the kings and queens of sleep.

According to the National Sleep Foundation's most recent annual Sleep in America poll, 43 percent of Americans ages 13 to 64 say they rarely or never get a good night's sleep during the week. Not surprising, then, when the average poll participant reported getting only six hours and 55 minutes of sleep a night!

This kind of sleep deprivation can catch up with you when your circadian rhythms naturally dip in the middle of the afternoon, leaving many the desk-jockey to wonder if it's possible to nap at work without getting canned.

Your cat may be onto something. In fact, our feline friends sleep more than most other mammals -- up to 16 hours a day, according to So take a cue and sleep early and often and in any and every sun-soaked corner you can find.
