It was over six months ago that the Small Business Administration (SBA) Administrator Karen Mills announced her resignation. The Deputy Administrator Marie Johns resigned in May. Karen Mills' last day will be at the end of August.
Why hasn't President Obama named her successor? Mills is a member of the President's Cabinet. When was the last time a member of the President's Cabinet resigned and six months passed and no one was appointed to succeed them?
According to the U.S. Census Bureau small businesses are responsible for over 90 percent of the net new jobs, over 50 percent of the private sector work force, over 50 percent of the GDP and over 90 percent of all U.S. exporters are small businesses.
The oldest and most efficient and effective economic stimulus program in U.S. history is the Small Business Act that stipulates that a minimum of 23 percent of the total value of all federal contracts be awarded to small businesses.
Considering the dire state of the middle class economy and the unrelenting and lagging unemployment, clearly the SBA is one of the most critical agencies in government if President Obama wants to help bootstrap the middle class economy.
It is very curious that President Obama has not even mentioned a replacement for Mills. It's even stranger that there has been virtually no mention of the fact the SBA will be without a leader in a matter of days in the mainstream media.
What could possibly be going on? I bet I know! Could it be that President Obama intends to close the only agency in government to assist the 28 million small businesses where most Americans work? How could that be? That would seem to be economic suicide.
The Kauffman Foundation released a study a few years ago that found that "new businesses" or small businesses were responsible for 100 percent of all net new jobs in America since 1980. Why would President Obama even consider closing the one and only federal agency established to assist the small businesses that are responsible for creating up to 100 percent of the net new jobs in America?
That could be absolutely devastating to our national economy. The SBA is responsible for administering all federal programs to assist minority-owned small businesses, woman-owned small business, veteran-owned small businesses and a multitude of federal programs that are vital to the health and economic strength of millions of American small businesses that are responsible for hundreds of millions of jobs. How could President Obama even consider closing what appears to be the single most important federal agency in our government when it comes to job creation and stimulating our national economy?
Remember the federal law that mandates that 23 percent of all federal contracts be awarded to small businesses? You think it could be possible that the Fortune 500 firms that are responsible for the majority of the lobbying dollars in Washington could possible have their eye on that 23 percent of all federal contracts? No. Say it isn't so. Surely Fortune 500 firms wouldn't want to end the most efficient and effective economic stimulus program in our nation's history just to increase their strangle hold on federal spending and increase their profits at the expense of the middle class.
Now, I have seen President Obama on television over a hundred times talking about the importance of creating jobs, helping entrepreneurs and boosting the middle class economy. I remember in his speech about his new budget he mentioned the word "jobs" a dozen times. Surely he would not be a part of any underhanded scheme by the corporate giants that rule the roost over at the Department of Commerce to shut down America's only agency to help the 28 million American small businesses that create up to 100 percent of all net new jobs in America.
I don't care what anyone says, I refuse to believe that President Obama would take part of any plan by the Fortune 500 firms (which contribute the majority of the funds that have financed his campaigns) to close the SBA so corporate giants can increase their profits.
After all, he's the President of the United States of America. He wouldn't lie to the American people to help corporate giants increase their profits at the expense of the middle class.
You would have to be a conspiracy nut to think something like that. I bet the president hasn't appointed a new SBA Administrator yet because he is looking really hard to find just the right person to clear up the rampant fraud and abuse at the SBA that has been uncovered by over a dozen federal investigations like GAO 10-108 and dozens of investigative reports by NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN and dozens of newspapers like The Washington Post.
