Small Business Saturday LA: Support Your Local Businesses, Day After Black Friday (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

SHOP LOCAL: Shop Small Business Saturday Instead Of Black Friday; LA Discounts Here

Eager shoppers are already camped out in tents outside of the Best Buy in Chino Hills. Target has decided to start its holiday sale Thanksgiving night, at midnight, prompting a petition protesting the infringement on family time. Many are saying that Black Friday, the post-Thanksgiving day that begins the Christmas shopping season, has gotten out of hand.

One solution may be Small Business Saturday - it's the day after Black Friday and was deemed an opportunity to support your city's local businesses (which often get left behind by big retailers' holiday sales). Started by American Express, last year's first annual Small Business Saturday resulted in day-long increased sales for small businesses, many of which offered special discounts for the day.

With 2,358,655 "likes" on the Small Business Saturday Facebook page, it is clear that the campaign is largely social media-based. In response to the Facebook prompt, "Tell us WHY you love to Shop Small!," close to 1,200 fans posted with comments such as "The grocer knows my name, the deli man knows I am there to buy the 'ends', the clerk asks how my grandkids are doing!" and "Mel and Zelda at the Corner Deli always has treats and water for my dog -- and Zelda still makes her potato salad from scratch every can't beat that!"

The page offers a link to enter your zip code and find out which "mom and pops" in your area are offering sales on Saturday. Check out our sampling below of Los Angeles small businesses offering discounts Saturday, and see their comments about Small Business Saturday last year.
