Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing On Longmont City Street (VIDEO)

Small Plane Lands On Longmont City Street

A small, single-engine propeller plane was forced to make an emergency landing on a Longmont street Sunday afternoon after the pilot experienced engine trouble. The plane's passengers were uninjured and, incredibly, no streetlights, trees or cars were hit.

Tim Barth, airport manager at Vance Brand Municipal Airport, told the Longmont Times-Call about the landing that resulted in no damage or injuries, "This is amazing. There is no wiggle room."

According to 7News, the pilot, 48, and his daughter, 19, were flying back to Boulder from Plattsmouth, Nebraska when the Piper Cherokee Archer II plane had engine trouble. The pilot was diverted to Vance Brand Airport in Longmont, but realized he wouldn't make it there either and around 5:30 p.m. had to dodge cars and other city street objects in order to land safely.

However, 9News reports that there were some close calls, the plane nearly crashed into a Home Depot and successfully dodged several pole lines on its way down.

Once the plane landed, the pilot was able to stop drivers on the road and get them to help him push the plane off the usually busy road, Fox31 reports.

The cause of the engine failure is not yet known and the names of the pilot and his daughter have not been released by the police.
