Smartphones have become ubiquitous, and while that might help you advance professionally, it's most likely hindering your kids.

Psychotherapist and author of "Parenting Without Power Struggles" Susan Stiffelman joined HuffPost Live's Caitlyn Becker to discuss how parents can rectify this issue. One way is with a tech log, where parents can chronicle their technology use so as to better establish a schedule with chunks of tech-free time.

"If we start infusing our days with small little pockets of time while we're all there, it almost changes the PH of the relationship," she said. "Allocating times when you're going to be away and working, and then being really diligent about down time and disconnecting, and making sure you stick to that as a practice is important, even if it's difficult."
