‘SNL’ Version Of Angela Merkel Is Not Happy Donald Trump Is Time’s ‘Person Of The Year’

"It kind of undermines the honor for me."

Saturday Night Live” imagined how German Chancellor Angela Merkel is coping with President-elect Donald Trump succeeding her as Time’s “Person of the Year.

And the short answer is … not too well.

Kate McKinnon as Germany’s political leader told the host of the “Weekend Update” segment, Colin Jost, that it “kind of undermines the honor for me.”

“It’s like winning the Nobel Prize for physics and then the next year they give it to Hoobastank,” she quipped. McKinnon as Merkel went on to describe 2016 as a “real Volkswagen” of a year. “Brexit. Trump. ‘Westworld’ left me with more questions than answers,” she added.

Asked if she feared the rise of nationalism in Europe, she made what she claimed was her country’s first-ever attempt at sarcasm ― before revealing how Germans called the white nationalist “alt-right” movement “why grandpapa lives in Argentina now.”
