Sofia Vergara went back to Colombia this past weekend to celebrateto celebrate the bicentennial of Barranquilla, her hometown.

On Sunday, in the Plaza de la Paz, Barranquilla celebrated its two centuries with a spectacle of lights, videos and music. The actress got on stage along with other well known personalities and sang Colombia's national anthem amid a carnaval of streamers and a chorus of children all dressed in white.

That afternoon, the mayor honored four people from Barranquilla who have been recognized internationally: Sofia Vergara, former baseball player Edgar Rentería, designer Silvia Tcherassi and singer Shakira, who was not able to attend the event.

"Every time I'm in Barranquilla, I see it's gotten better," said the actress during a press conference. "I'm so happy to be in Barranquilla. This is my home, these are my people and I'm proud to be Barranquillera and happy to have celebrated my land's 200 years with so many beautiful people and great friends like Silvia and Edgar."

Sofia returned Monday to New York to continue with her busy work schedule. She will continue filming Heat in New Orleans along with co-star Jason Statham.
