McDonald's Under Fire For Depicting Gay Man's Coming Out In New Ad

It's called "Acceptance."

A young man comes out to his dad in a new McDonald's McCafe ad airing in Taiwan by writing his secret on a coffee cup. But a less-than-happy meal ensues. The father storms off, leaving the kid dejected.

Eventually the father returns and writes on a cup, "I accept that you like boys."

If only the commercial, titled "Acceptance," were met with such tolerance. It's brewing up protests from Taiwan's religious community, AdWeek reported.

The Alliance of Taiwan Religious Groups for the Protection of Family is attempting to launch a boycott.

"Even if you want to just take a leak at a McDonald's bathroom, you can't help but feel polluted," an Alliance spokesperson told Taiwanese outlets, per AdWeek.

According to Shanghaiist, the group issued a statement that reads: "Because McDonald's is frequented by many children, it is especially important to oppose the promotion of same-sex behavior." The alliance also added that it "opposes all advertising that miseducates children on sexual behavior" and "rebukes and boycotts all enterprises that are polluting the next generation."

The Huffington Post reached out to McDonald's for comment but a response was not immediately received.
