Sotheby's welcomed celebrities and art-lovers Wednesday night for the opening of its new Divine Comedy exhibit.

The exhibit, which brought out the likes of Julianne Moore, Padma Lakshmi, Alan Cumming, Emily Mortimer, and Jeisa Chiminazzo, "investigates the comedic side of art from ancient times to today through the lens of Dante's epic poem," according to the official description. Author James Frey was also on hand to sign a fully-illustrated limited-edition exhibition catalogue featuring "Il Divino Bambino," his reinterpretation of the original "Divine Comedy."

The exhibit features 80 works — including those by artists including Pieter Brueghel, Auguste Rodin, Salvador Dali, Francis Bacon, Andy Warhol, Jeff Koons and Maurizio Cattelan — that range in price from $30,000 to over $10 million.

Intended as a lead-in for the New York Comedy Festival, Divine Comedy will run at Sotheby's through October 30.
