Kickstarter Campaign Wants To Bring Sous Vide Machines Into Your Kitchen

Gadgets like the Nomiku immersion circulator always make us think the same thing: food nerds and science nerds make the best combination.

The crew behind the Nomiku and its Kickstarter campaign invented this device to make cooking sous vide more affordable, less intimidating and (probably coolest of all) portable.

Sous vide is a slow, controlled cooking method that involves sealing food in an airtight bag and gently cooking it in a water bath. It requires exact temperature control, often for long periods of time.

Q, Abe and Bam have this to say about their venture into the kitchen robot arena:

Sadly, sous vide machines in the past have been too expensive ($1000+!) and complicated (six buttons?) for the home cook. Happily, the Nomiku has one knob that you turn to adjust the temperature and a screen that displays the temperature. You press the screen to turn the Nomiku on and off. The Nomiku clips on to any pot you already own and can be stored away after use; it is the most compact immersion circulator in the world.

After spending some time with the prototype, the lucky team at Engadget said, "It's dead simple to use, and is about the same size as a hand blender, so most folks won't have a problem finding a place for it in their kitchen."

For a $299 donation to the project, you can get your very own Nomiku and feel partially responsible for bringing tender, evenly-cooked steaks to the world.
