South Carolina Primary Results: Live Updates

Voters in South Carolina hit the polls on Saturday to cast ballots in the state's presidential primary election.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich surged in the polls leading up to the contest. In his campaign to score a win over rival contender Mitt Romney, Gingrich said he hoped to "make history" with a victory in the Palmetto State.

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul and former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum are both already looking beyond South Carolina to upcoming contests on the election calendar.
