GLAAD's Spirit Day: Oprah, Snooki, Jason Collins And Other Celebs Honor LGBT Youth Oct. 17

Who Went Purple On Behalf Of LGBT Youth This Year?

Oct. 17 marked the celebration of GLAAD's annual Spirit Day, a statement of solidarity among lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) individuals and their allies who publicly showcased their opposition to the bullying of LGBT youth.

According to GLAAD, this year's initiative reached more than 150 million people on a global scale through the collaborative participation of celebrities, companies, organizations, LGBT individuals and their allies everywhere.

People from all walks of life took part in the symbolic gesture of solidarity, including employees at major culture-shaping companies such as Facebook:

Major buildings and landmarks also took part in Spirit Day celebrations, with many either tweeting their support or literally going purple. According to GLAAD, these included Times Square, the NY Stock Exchange, the White House and Las Vegas.
