Spirit Day: Stand Up Against Bullying And Support LGBT Youth

Today Is Spirit Day. Stand Up Against Bullying!

Today marks a relatively young, but nonetheless important, annual event: Spirit Day, a day dedicated for standing up against bullying and supporting LGBT youth or LGBT-perceived youth.

Brittany McMillan, a Canadian high school student, started Spirit Day in 2010 in response to all the LGBT youth suicides. With the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation's (GLAAD) help, McMillan's vision has become a national observance, garnering support from Hollywood to D.C. and everyone in between.

In a post for The Huffington Post, McMillan wrote, "Don't forget to demonstrate the same attitude you have today all day, every day, for the rest of your life. Spirit Day only takes place one day out of the year, but our commitment to putting an end to bullying is everlasting."
