With less than a week left before election day, the race for the Democratic nomination for New York City comptroller, is "too close to call."

The latest poll from Quinnipiac University, released Wednesday, has Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer with 47 percent support among likely Democratic voters, slightly above Spitzer's 45 percent. The poll has a margin of error of 3.6 percentage points.

"The Democratic primary for New York City comptroller is no longer an Eliot Spitzer romp," said director of the Quinnipiac Polling Institute, Maurice Carroll. "Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer has made the comptroller race a nail-biter, too close to call."

A previous poll had the two candidates virtually tied at 46 percent, a dramatic shift in a race that earlier this summer had Spitzer leading by 19 points.

The primary will be held on Tuesday, September 10.
