General Stanley McChrystal Thought Arnold Schwarzenneger Should Play Him In Upcoming Movie

McChrystal On Being Played By Brad Pitt: 'Schwarzenneger Came To Mind First'

A movie adaptation of "The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan," the 2012-novel that follows General Stanley McChrystal's time as a military-leader in Iraq, is set to star Brad Pitt as the commander himself. While the resigned general said he felt "a little humbled" by the casting choice, it wasn't initially Pitt, the three-time holder of People Magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive" title, that he saw taking his life onscreen.

"I certainly never spent any time thinking about [the casting], but of course Arnold Schwarzenneger came to mind first," he told HuffPost Live's Alyona Minkovski in an interview on Wednesday.

"No, but seriously, I never have thought about that," he continued. "I certainly got a lot of respect for what Brad Pitt has done in movies -- I like to watch movies -- but who ever thinks about who's going to play them in a movie?"

Despite McChrystal's past turmoil with the media (a 2010 Rolling Stone profile in which he made defamatory remarks about Vice President Biden left him disgraced and arguably forced to resign), the former general seemed confident that the film would capture him fairly.

"I think that if whoever's involved in making a film does due diligence and they study all of the body of information out there, then I'd be confident that they'd come with a more informed and broad depiction of [my experiences]," he said.
