'Star Trek Beyond' Cast Honors Leonard Nimoy With Moving Tribute

The late actor's “love for the human spirit shone through everything he did, he touched lives around the world and he is greatly missed.”

In a touching video tribute to the late Leonard Nimoy, the cast of “Star Trek Beyond” remembered the acting legend's contributions to the world and encouraged fans to support a cause that was near and dear to his heart.

“Leonard was an actor, a champion of the arts and a true inspiration to so many,” actor Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in “Star Trek Beyond,” said in the clip. “[His] love for the human spirit shone through everything he did, he touched lives around the world and he is greatly missed.”

The video is part of the “Star Trek Beyond” Omaze campaign that’s been raising money for nine charities chosen by the film’s cast and crew.

One of the charities is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization whose cause Nimoy had been deeply “passionate about,” Quinto says.

In the tribute, “Star Trek Beyond” castmembers can be seen offering a Vulcan salute to Nimoy, who died in February at the age of 83. Behind-the-scenes clips of the actor are also shown in the video.

Donations to the “Star Trek Beyond” Omaze campaign will be accepted through September 1.

Depending on the amount contributed, donors can snag exclusive merchandise and “Star Trek” collectibles, including “authentic Spock ears.” One lucky fan will be selected to appear in “Star Trek Beyond,” which is scheduled for release next summer.
