Daniel Fleetwood, the terminally ill "Star Wars" fan whose dying wish was to see "The Force Awakens," has died at the age of 32.
Fleetwood was diagnosed with a rare form of connective tissue cancer, spindle cell sarcoma, and was given only two months to live in July. He died on Tuesday morning, according to his wife Ashley's Facebook account.
"Daniel put up an amazing fight to the very end," she wrote. "He is now one with God and with the force. He passed in his sleep and in peace. He will always be my idol and my hero...Rest in peace my love. This was the last selfie we ever took together.#forcefordaniel"
Ashley successfully launched the #ForceForDaniel campaign earlier this month, which garnered support from "Star Wars" fans, actors and filmmakers alike, to help compel Disney and Lucasfilm to allow Daniel to watch the latest installment of the epic series for before he passed away.
Daniel's wish was granted just five days ago, when director J.J. Abrams visited the couple's home to screen an unedited version of the film, which premieres in December. Ashley documented the momentous occasion on her Facebook as well.
"To all our wonderful supporters, friends, family and awesome strangers," she started the post. "Daniels final dream was just granted!!! Today the wonderful Disney, Bad Robot and Lucasfilm teams made his final dream come true, Daniel just finished watching an unfinished version of 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'!!!...I want to thank ALL the amazing people who helped make this happen!!! May the force be with you all😊 #forcefordaniel."
