World's First 'Star Wars' Plane Takes Flight From All Nippon Airways

And the crowd goes wild.

Back in April, All Nippon Airways drove everyone wookiee with the news that it would start flying a special-edition "Star Wars" plane sometime soon.

Well, that sometime is now. And trust us: The maiden voyage was totally epic.

All Nippon's R2-D2 jet took off from Haneda Japan this weekend, on a flight to Vancouver Canada. And everyone from Chewbacca to C-3PO was onboard:

The plane is only the first of three "Star Wars" jets that All Nippon will release this year. Another plane will be decked out to look like BB-8, a new character from the upcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" film. And one more will feature both R2-D2 and BB-8.

The "Star Wars" flights will be the first in the world to show the entire "Star Wars" film series onboard as in-flight entertainment, according to a company press release. Journeys will also include Star Wars headrest covers, napkins, cups and decorations, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The double-character "Star Wars" Jet will begin service throughout Japan in winter 2015, and the BB-8 Jet will fly primarily North American routes starting in spring 2016.
