Steny Hoyer Urges Young People To Register To Vote (VIDEO)

Hoyer Issues Warning To Young Voters

House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) is starring in a new video urging young people to vote in November's election.

Part of a campaign from OurTime.org, the video emphasizes the importance of properly registering in light of new voter ID laws. Hoyer, who has been a strong advocate of student voting, says young people need to be more prepared than ever before entering a voting booth.

"I think a lot of these voter ID laws that are being put in place are discouraging voters purposefully to try to undermine turnout and to preclude votes from coming because some of the people who are proposing them believe they won't vote for them or for the policies they support," Hoyer says in the video.

"Young people have the biggest stake in this election," Hoyer continues. "If you don't [vote], your future will be in somebody else's hands. If you vote, the future will be in your hands."

Hoyer isn't the only Maryland lawmaker speaking out on the importance of voting. Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) also appeared in a video urging registration ahead of the state's Tuesday deadline.
