Stephanie Gribble Arrested After 4 Children Allegedly Overdose At Unlicensed Day Care

Woman Arrested After 4 Kids O.D. At Illegal Day Care

An Indiana woman was arrested after four children in her care were admitted to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment of an apparent drug overdose.

Day care owner Stephanie Gribble, 37, faces four counts of child neglect after Child Services officials contacted police Thursday.

Indianapolis police said that the four children may have been given a combination of over-the-counter and prescription medication. Police said that the kids -- three girls and a boy -- displayed difficulty walking, and were drooling and staring into space when they were brought in.

On Friday, officials ordered Gribble's day care closed. Documents obtained by WISH-TV show that Gribble has been in trouble several times for operating an unlicensed day care, beginning in 2008. The station reported:

Court documents in 2011 show that Gribble had 13 kids in her care and she never got a license. She did it again in 2012. That time, she had 15 children but she still did not apply for a license.

The Indianapolis Star reports that state officials have been trying to shut down Gribble's day care operation for years, after she "repeatedly violated and continues to violate Indiana code," according to court documents.

The children remained hospitalized, and no information on their condition has been released. The Indianapolis Star reports that the boy is age 5, and the girls are ages 5, 2, and 11 months. The children are from three different families.
