Stephen Baldwin Feels Obligated To Vote For Brother Alec Baldwin If He Runs For Mayor Of NYC

Stephen Baldwin Will Reluctantly Back Brother Alec If He Runs For Mayor

Should Alec Baldwin ever act on his musings of running for mayor of New York, his younger brother, actor Stephen Baldwin, would vote for him -- reluctantly.

Politicker caught up with Stephen outside the CNN Grill at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, and the actor revealed that family ties would basically obligate him to vote for his big brother.

“I really wouldn’t have much of a choice. Would I? Being a New York resident and he’s big bro, so yeah, he gets my vote,” he told the website.

Stephen, 46, is a self-proclaimed "Jesus freak evangelical charismatic born again conservative independent," and he's been very outspoken about his beliefs -- something he says has cost him plenty of roles in liberal-leaning Hollywood.

“When you talk about subjects like abortions and rape, you are hitting hot buttons,” he told The Huffington Post earlier this month. “It’s challenging people to ask themselves, what would you do in a certain situation? I’ve run my mouth pretty good about my beliefs. I can’t say if someone murdered my family members, I wouldn’t seek revenge.”

The actor clearly has very different views than his notoriously liberal older brother.

Alec, 54, first announced he was thinking of running for mayor of New York City in August 2011 but said he'd sit out the 2013 race since it would be impossible with his commitment to filming NBC's "30 Rock." At the time, Baldwin said he planned to establish permanent city residence before running.

However, in December of that year, Alec admitted he lost interest in running for mayor. On his weekly podcast hosted on WNYC, he explained:

I've lost my appetite. Plus the people that are running for mayor - I know this is terrible - I look at them and I don't see myself in that crowd. They're like a guy on a date that you can tell he just can't wait to get his hand up your blouse before even the lights go out in the theatre. They're all just so horny for it. Horny for their own ascension.

Baldwin can't seem to make up his mind, though. A month later he appeared to be revitalizing his self-run rumor mill by yet again discussing a run for office. In an appearance on "Piers Morgan Tonight," Baldwin chatted about his ongoing flirtation and said he "does want to run for office one day."

So, is he still interested? Stephen revealed that Alec still has his dreams of one day being Mayor Baldwin.

“I definitely think he’s interested at some point in the future, just the question would be when. He’s newly married now, so I think he’s trying to just relax and enjoy himself,” Stephen told Politicker.
