Stephen Colbert Author Interview: Garret Keizer: 'Noise Is Indicative Of Power' (VIDEO)

Garret Keizer, author of the new book "The Unwanted Sound of Everything We Want: A Book About Noise," was on the "Colbert Report" last night to talk about the implications of noise in our society. "Noise and silence get distributed like other forms of wealth and other forms of disadvantage," he said. Colbert used the example of his private jet, which leaves noise behind with the little people who are left wishing for their own private jets -- "my noise is just very loud hope," he said.

"Noise is indicative of power," Keizer explained, and said that in many ways, disadvantaged people are loud in the wrong ways. "I think many poor people could stand to be louder than they are," he said, suggesting that people need to speak up for themselves and for their rights, when in reality they rebel by being literally noisy, which doesn't improve their lives at all.
