Rep. Steve Daines (R-Mont.), beat out state Rep. Champ Edmunds and candidate Susan Cundiff in the Tuesday night GOP primary to succeed former Sen. Max Baucus (D), who is now serving as the U.S. Ambassador to China.

He will face off against incumbent Sen. John Walsh (D), who was appointed by Gov. Steve Bullock (D) to fill out the remainder of Baucus's term, in the November general election.

Early polls have shown Daines with a double-digit lead over Walsh.
