We'd like to picture a game of ping-pong between Jon Stewart and Fox News. They'd keep lofting it up and he'd keep slamming it down. Last night, Stewart really gave them what for, hammering them for comparing the Nuclear Security Summit's logo to the crescent moon of Muslim countries.
Fox News was really asking for this one, as they attempted to show Obama's deliberate support of Muslim nations by displaying the Summit logo among flags of Muslim nations with the line "summit symbol similar to Muslim image" splayed across the bottom. The anchor then added "You be the judge." Personifying Fox News, Stewart ran with it:
"Yeah, you be the judge. We're just letting you know about some bullshit thing we saw, saying this is a coded message to the Muslim world. We're just curious citizens, wondering if we put that logo up with four Muslim flags, whether you'll have a visceral reaction that our president is perhaps Muslim, while clearly stating our conclusion on our lower-third graphic."
Stewart then turned the tables on Fox News, finding some similarities between its own logo and Nazi imagery. Another lob, another spike.
