Storm Tracker: Hurricane Irene 2011 Predicted Route Along The East Coast (INTERACTIVE MAP)

Hurricane Irene is just beginning to hit the East Coast and already many states have declared a state of emergency.

With at least 65 million people were in its projected path, following the storm's movements are crucial to many, especially those in coastal areas. New York City is already taking precautions as it prepares for what may be the worst hurricane in decades.

The storm's reach may be far and wide, according to the AP:

The hurricane warning was extended into the Chesapeake Bay as far as Drum Point, and existing warnings remained in effect from North Carolina to New Jersey. A hurricane watch was in effect even farther north and included Long Island, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, Mass.
