Other award winners include: Ryan Coogler as best director for "Creed," Will Smith as best actor for "Concussion" and Teyonah Parris as best actress for "Chi-Raq."
The AAFCA, consists of journalists who cover cinematic arts, regularly reviews films with an emphasis on those that cover the black experience.
Gil Robertson, the AAFCA president, said in a press release sent to The Huffington Post that the films released this year helped give "a voice to communities who have generally been underserved and marginalized."
The awards will be distributed at a ceremony on Feb. 10, in Los Angeles.
