My hair used to be depressed. True story. Don't believe me? Read this: "Why My Dream Hair Wasn't Worth Going Bald Over."

After a lot of soul-searching, tons of products, a few emotional breakdowns and plenty of prayer, I was finally able to embrace my natural hair. But like they say, "it takes a village" -- which is why my journey would not be complete without the awesomeness that is Anthony Dickey.

Those entrenched in the natural hair movement/community are fully aware of Dickey's prowess. And for those who aren't familiar with the talented hairstylist, then today's your lucky day. In short, Dickey is a hair guru and the co-founder of Hair Rules, a New York City-based salon and line of products that caters to textured tresses. Over the past 20+ years, he has been dedicated to dispelling "myths about beauty that are deeply rooted in historical and social experiences" -- while also making his clients look absolutely fabulous. Word up!

And Dickey doesn't just work is magic on mere mortals like myself, he has also transformed the manes of superstars like Alicia Keys, Nicole Ari Parker, Andre 3000 and Sarah Jessica Parker, just to name a few. His method of superb styling and educating the client about their specific hair type is both empowering and appreciated.

With that said, I decided to capture his unique approach to haircare on video. I visited Dickey at the Hair Rules salon with dreams of achieving the perfect halo curls like the styles I drool over on Instagram accounts like @CurlyGirlCollective and @TheManeSociety (But don't get me wrong, I love my hair texture/curl pattern, yet I also admire the health and confidence-exuding curls I see on my social media feed). The result, a comprehensive look at how to whip your hair into shape with lots of LOVE!
