14-Year-Old Wins National Spelling Bee

Sukanya Roy has won the 2011 Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The 14-year-old from outside Scranton, Pennsylvania, spelled cymotrichous correctly to win the Bee. The word is an adjective which means having wavy hair.

According to NESN, as "[the champion] finished the word -- a word she admitted to knowing -- she broke out into a huge smile."

This year's Spelling Bee brought 275 competitors ranging in age from 8 to 15 from all over the world, according to the Scripps Spelling Bee website.
