On Sunday February 2nd, Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos will face-off against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl XLVIII in Giants Stadium in New Jersey.

This year’s Super Bowl will live in history the moment the 6:30 pm EST kick-off takes place. It will be the first ever Super Bowl that will be televised in Spanish.

Fox Deportes –formerly known as Fox Sports en Español– will have John Laguna and Francisco X. Rivera calling the game.

“It’s about time the Spanish-speaking people get to watch a Super Bowl without having to hit the SAP button on the remote,” said Fox Deportes broadcaster John Laguna. “All the Super Bowls have been broadcast (in parts of Latin America), it’s surprising it has taken so long … this should have happened 10 years ago,” reported the Denver Post.

“Before Sunday’s game, football games were broadcast in Spanish via SAP or Secondary Audio Programing. Laguna has worked as a SAP broadcaster in the past, calling the games, but it was much less glamorous. Only one guy in a booth, calling the game, no anchors or reporters,” they added.

Jeff Krolik, President, FOX Sports Regional Networks stated,“We are extremely pleased about our new agreement with the NFL.“

“Being the first U.S. Spanish-language network to broadcast the Super Bowl is a testament to our continuous efforts to strengthen our programming, and further solidify FOX Deportes as the leader in the Latino sports space,” Krolik added.

FOX Deportes will further support the NFL’s ongoing efforts to recognize and celebrate the contributions of the Hispanic community through the development of special programming surrounding Super Bowl XLVIII and Hispanic Heritage Month in 2014.

Latinos on the field during the Super Bowl

The Latino impact won’t just be felt on the sidelines for this years’ Super Bowl, but it will also feature three Latino on a Super Bowl squad for the first time ever.

Louis Vasquez, Manny Ramirez and Knowshon Moreno will suit up for the Broncos on Super Bowl Sunday.
